What is Alkaline Water Good For?
All this hype lately about Alkaline water, here is a quick breakdown of it’s benefits and cautions.
On a scale of 0 to 14, 0 is more acidic and 14 is more alkaline. 7 is neutral.
Our bodies usually have a pH level of about 7.35. It’s best for our bodies to be slightly more alkaline than acidic. When the body is acidic, diseases grow. In an acidic environment, cancer cells grow, inflammation grows, bacteria may multiply and many other issues may arise.
Water is one of the best ways to raise the alkalinity of the blood. Anything over 8.0 alkalinity is great. There are even some companies which have water with a 9.5 pH level! However, be cautious that you don’t drink water out of plastic water bottles as they contain BPA, a toxic chemical released by the plastic, which can be harmful to the body (BPA are released even if the plastic isn’t heated.)
Other foods that raise alkalinity include such as green & leafy vegetables, herbal teas, adding lemon to water, and natural herbs & spices.
On the contrary, dairy, alcohol, black coffee, sugar, and trans fats are just a few foods that are more acidic and should be consumed with caution.
It’s important to keep our body slightly more alkaline by consuming a diet high alkaline foods and drinks while limiting our intake of acidic foods & drinks. Remember, when shopping for alkaline water, look for a pH of over 8.0 and try and avoid plastic bottles when possible!
